Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Igor Lukšić opened earlier today the Honorary Consulate of Montenegro in Hamburg, Germany.

In his address, Mr Lukšić said he was certain that the new consulate, supported by the Embassy in Berlin, will additionally improve the relations between the two countries, primarily in the areas of economy and culture, but also contribute to cultural exchange and closer ties. Mr Lukšić underlined numerous opportunities Montenegro offers in the areas of tourism, renewable energy, agriculture, and many others. I am certain that the honorary consulate's activities will be aimed at promoting Montenegro and attracting more tourists and businessmen to visit our country, Mr Lukšić has said.

During his working visit to Germany, Mr Lukšić met with Senate President and First Mayor of Hamburg Olaf Scholtz. He informed his host about the current developments in Montenegro and our activities aimed at EU and NATO membership. Both sides welcomed the opening of Montenegro's honorary consulate in Hamburg and the appointment of Peer Witten, whose engagement will contribute to a more intensive cooperation in various areas of mutual interest. Mr Lukšić also visited the Hamburg Harbour (HHLA).

The opening of the honorary consulate will contribute to a further improvement of relations between Montenegro and Germany, which are continuously developing through an intensive political dialogue and comprehensive cooperation in all fields.
