Abu Dhabi: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Igor Lukšić visits United Arab Emirates
Abu Dhabi, UAE (5 May 2014) – During his visit to the United Arab Emirates, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Igor Lukšić attended the conference entitled ‘The Rise of Abu Dhabi,’ held at the ministerial level under the auspices of UN Secretary-General and the UAE on the topic of climate change.
The conference, launched by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, is intended to contribute to a joint discussion on how to implement the planned field activities aimed at reducing the global negative impact on climate, as well as to mobilise political resolve to verify the agreements related to this issue in 2015.
During his stay in UAE, Minister Lukšić met with his counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, which proved to be an additional impulse to a further development of relations between the two countries. The meeting focused on boosting economic cooperation. The UAE minister informed Mr Lukšić that the Abu Dhabi Development Fund has additionally improved the conditions for the agriculture loan agreed earlier during his official visit to Podgorica. The Ministers reached an agreement on further visa liberalisation which would contribute to establishing closer communication and cooperation between the two countries’ business communities.
Minister Lukšić also had a meeting at the federation of chambers of commerce and industry. He welcomed as very encouraging the decision of the federation to open a representation in Montenegro which would operate regionally. The decision to open the mission came after their delegation was informed of the potential for cooperation during their March visit to Montenegro.
Minsiter Lukšić spoke with the President of Etihad Airways James Hogan about the possibility to establish cooperation between Etihad and Montenegro Airlines, for which Mr James had expressed an interest. In that regard, operational level meetings were held between the two airlines and they discussed future steps and agreed a visit to Montenegro by Etihad representatives, on which occasion cooperation could be discussed in more concrete terms.
At the sidelines of the UN conference, Minister Lukšić met with his Egyptian counterpart Nabil Fahmy, with whom he agreed to take concrete steps towards holding operation level consultations between the two ministries, extend economic cooperation by using the existing mechanism of Egypt-Canada business council, as well as to identify Montenegrin and Egyptian companies who could establish cooperation.
The visit to the UAE and the bilateral meetings held on that occasion will contribute to further promotion of Montenegro and its economic interests, as well as to the improvement of the two countries economic and overall relations.
